What is Bennu?

During Ancient Egypt, the date palm held great significance and was revered from the earliest Pharaonic dynasties. A common bird found in the Nile valley, known as the "Bennu" bird, became closely associated with the date palm. This connection was reflected in the mural paintings adorning the tombs of kings and nobles, where the bird was often depicted. Interestingly, the term "Bennu" extended beyond the bird and was also used to refer to the date palm fruit and anything sweet. The intertwining of the date palm and the sun-bird in ancient Egyptian culture underscored the tree's immense importance in their lives.
